Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Confirmed

Infinity Ward community manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling has confirmed that the developer's next Call of Duty entry, due this fall, will be subtitled Modern Warfare 2.

"Reviewing some radio-chatter VO we just finished recording for Modern Warfare 2 today," read Bowling's Twitter. "'Cujo Two-One this is Vulture, solid copy on all.'"

Though the Modern Warfare 2 subtitle has been floating around since publisher Activision mentioned it last December, the company quickly labeled those reports speculative, despite being based on an Activision presentation attended by the press.

While a new entry in the wartime shooting series, World at War, was released last fall, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward had little to do with the title, which was instead handled by Treyarch. This strategy, dubbed leapfrog, allows Activsion to release a new title annually whilst providing studios with plenty of development time.

Platforms for Modern Warfare 2 have yet to be confirmed, though PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS releases are a safe bet given the history of the franchise.

i hope they do something different with cod 4 part 2. cod5 was nice because it was a different game. different locales, weapons, etc. would be nice if they did modern combat in europe or south america or something like that.

Agreed, getting annoyed with the middle east :D.. I just hope the multiplayer isn't the same with more perks/guns, i got bored after a while of playing.

It's still one of the most polished and complete MP games around right now, that level of excellence and completeness is not easy to achieve at all.

yeah weapon unlocks were cool at the time but they need something more than just weapon unlocks and XP to be the only draw for MP

And the level of grenade spamming isn't easy to achieve as well.

Not saying that it's bad at all, I loved the MP side of cod4, it was something new and different, but that new and different is getting to be old and repetitive.
